The days are getting shorter...

And a much-needed rain has rescued us from what threatened to be a drought, which was a dire state of things, to be sure, because it never drowses in Georgia. I hadn't been as faithful in watering my garden of late, and things were looking rather blighted. The one advantage was that the grass had stopped growing, and thus needed no mowing.

Family came down last week and stayed until Sunday morning, and Jane certainly enjoyed all the attention. We went blueberry picking on Saturday, set out to pick a gallon, and got carried away and came home with two. Now I know it's not proper to talk about prices, but I simply must crow at the tremendous bargain. The blueberries were $6/gallon, and when we went to the store later, we saw them for sale at $2.99 for 1/2 pint. Now by my calculations that is $6 a pint, and considering that there are eight pints to a gallon, we really made out like bandits! Some we sent home with family, some we made into blueberry muffins, some we fed to Jane, but the majority we froze.

Then this morning I scooped up ten half gallons of milk about to expire, at such a terrific price that I couldn't resist even though I knew I had no room in the freezer. So when we got home I unloaded the freezer, rearranged everything, condensed, sorted, and curtailed, and ended up cramming most of it back in, giving up on a few non-essentials like bread crusts. Bread crusts are all very well and good, but would I hang on to bread crusts over milk? There was plenty of room in my freezer once I gave up the bulky junk! It seemed like a perfect object lesson to me about how we cling stubbornly to the dross and pass up the really good stuff in life.

I'm drooling over the blueberries. I have no clue where to get berries now that we've moved. Meanwhile my family drowns in fresh strawberries and raspberries both at the farm and my stepmother's house. Life is so unfair! :-)

Yeah, I was proud of myself having curbed the desire to buy cherries when they looked so yummy, but were a ridiculous $6.99/lb. But when I heard that Vanessa bought some while visiting her in-laws for 75 CENTS/lb, my "steal" of $2.99/lb made me feel bad. Ugh... if only I had time for U-pick fruit.

Did you take any pictures of your fabulous weekend w/the fam? I mean come on, MRF, where are your priorities? Obviously on your freezer...lol...I can just see you getting so excited about that. Seriously, though, do you have any recent cute ones of your sweet fam, preferably with everyone in it? Pretty please?

Btw, Janice, did you know it's not MRF it's RLF? At least someone told me that.

You're both right. MRF is my legal name but RLF is on all my credit cards and my E-vite registration. =)

And alas, no, I didn't take any pictures on our camera this weekend. They took lots, though, so I hope they send me some. That failing, you can always look at Jonathan's site in case he posts any.

You lost me on the D.

MRF-RLF ok, I'm really confused. ;) Reminds me of a few Christmas' ago when I had to call up my old orthodontist’s office and left a message saying this is Sarah D... My brother said, "Hey did you forget your name changed?" No. I just knew they wouldn't have a clue who patient "Sarah M" was.

Is that for Dear Little Friend, like Trumpkin? Oh, do say I'm right!

That's right. I don't actually call Rose DLF. The initials always suggest it to me, however.
But hey, it's better than Sludge.
