Michael and I auditioned for our church's summer dinner theater, which will be Hello Dolly! this time, and were cast in singing and dancing roles. Very fun! The rehearsal schedule has started up in earnest, though, and it's shaping up to be a busy summer.
We watched the movie before auditioning, and were very disappointed at first - cute, but forgettable is what I thought of it. Clever songs and dialogue and all, but pretty lame plot, not to mention Barbra Streisand. But we heard from so many sources that the play is far removed from - and vastly superior to - the movie, that we decided to give it a go.
Performances are the first and second weekends in August, so we have just under eight weeks before the parade passes by.

Aw, come on, MRF! What do you have against BS as an artist? ;-) And Walter Mathaeu (sp?) is priceless and dashing in that movie.
Yes, I confess I was charmed by her performance in it, much to my surprise, as knowing what I do about her politics I thought I'd be inclined to dislike her, but she was very ill-cast. The play really has Dolly as a middle-aged meddler, not nearly so young or pretty (why would someone of Barbra's looks and personality settle for a half-millionaire, after all?), and I read somewhere that WM couldn't stand his co-star and could barely get through their scenes together. All in all, I'm excited to see what the play is about. =)
Ah, ok, I understand your reasons, especially since her role differs so much from the play.
