Last night we watched Jaws. I knew the basic premise - killer sharks keep eating stupid bathers, unmistakable soundtrack - but had never seen it. At the very beginning, watching all the teenagers wasted on the beach in their pathetic 70s hairstyles and clothes, I remarked, 'What a bunch of losers. I don't care if they DO all climb into the water and get eaten.' But the movie improved from there, especially as the fishing expedition got underway, at which point it began to assume semi-classical proportions, resembling in a small way 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea or Moby Dick, pitting the forces of man against monster amidst the backdrop of the awesome forces of nature. It was a very scary movie. 'Was it scarier than Alien?' Michael asked. No, it wasn't. Alien is still the scariest movie I've ever seen. But I have to say that Jaws was very frightening.
Tonight we're going to see about watching Bringing Up Baby, which Michael has never seen. I remember watching it with Harmony probably ten years ago and laughing virtually without intermission throughout the entirety of it. This should be fun. It's high time for a happy movie now.
