I am NOT yelling

Which, according to modern-day online parlance etiquette, consists of using all-caps. I find, however, that using caps is a convenient way of expressing emphasis when the traditional underline, italics, and bold are not available. As far as I am concerned, the recommended practise of setting off type for emphasis by using *asterisks* is not effective. Asterisks imply ethereal and dreamy thoughts that drifted into the paragraph almost by mistake, and then settled down for a wistful and somewhat noncommittal visit. *sigh* I mean, the very sight of them implies stars or wispy clouds, not a multi-purpose cross between bold and underlining augmentation. In my opinion, there is NOTHING wrong with using all caps as long as one's tone is held firmly in check. If I had any thoughts of yelling I would indicate that by using an exclamation point, preferably several! And even then, my intention would not be express anger or impatience, but merely exuberance!! The more punctuation, the greater the exuberance!!!
