Happy Birthday Oregon!

The state song of Oregon - also known as the Beaver State - is Oregon, My Oregon. The official state drink is milk.

Virginia's state song is Carry Me Back To Old Virginia. The state nickname is Old Dominion State and the state dance is the Virginia Reel.

Georgia is known as the Peach State and the state song is Georgia On My Mind.

And that's about all I've learned about the places I've lived.

Don't buy me flowers
The effect will fall flat;
Flowers will die in a couple of hours~
What lame allegory is that?

Milk?! How can milk be Oregon's "state drink?!" That is very random.

Fortunately I was working at the Oregon state legislature in 1997 when that law passed, and so I can tell you. A sharply divided House thought it would be nice to have the first bill of the session be one that both sides could agree upon, and so the resolution to make milk the state drink of Oregon was drafted, so that HB 1 could be passed unanimously. =)

Alas Virginia has no state song...due to political pressure
