A bridge too far

Michael's brother Eric came last Friday to spend the weekend. We went out to a Braves game Friday night and WON! It was terribly exciting. The score was tied through five innings, and the Giants scored three almost before we knew it, and then at the bottom of the sixth we scored four most dramatically. There was this point at which the ball bounced at the edge of the court and rebounded out, over the wall. The batter jogged complacently around to second base, and then stopped. 'When it bounces out,' Michael explained, 'it's counted as an automatic double.' This made no sense to me at all. I mean, if the ball gets outside the arena at all, never mind how, whether it gets hit out or whether a bird swoops down and carries it off, it seems that it is just as inescapably out of reach. 'Well, I'd like to see the outfielder try to retrieve that ball and tag the batter out before he reaches home plate,' I told Michael. 'Ha!' But anyway, we were vindicated by a home run later in the inning, and ended up winning 5-3. Very fun.

On Saturday we hiked Kennesaw Mountain, northwest of Atlanta and site of several Civil War skirmishes. Actually Michael and Eric hiked to the top while I browsed the museum. Then we went to Ron and Catherine's for dinner, and amazingly enough Catherine had not invited any single girl over to set Eric up with.

It was a good visit.

Does that mean it wouldn't have been a good visit had Catherine brought along a single woman? Seemed to work out well for you and Michael. (smile) - Sarah

Hmm, that was an unfortunate juxtaposition of paragraphs, wasn't it? Catherine the Great would have made a success of any dinner party. And it would not have been the first couple to have met at her house, eh, Sarah and Nathan? ;)
